Taking Part Days?

While Section 57(1)(c) requires an Alternative holiday to be a whole working day off for the employee, there is nothing specifically in the act preventing an employee from splitting an Alternative Day. However, we would not recommend doing this as it appears contrary to the intention of the Act to replace the missed Public holiday. There are no half-day public holidays, except perhaps ANZAC day. The problem is better resolved by using normal leave instead and to save the Alternate day for a time when a whole day is desired.
